JKIA layover safari
Nairobi National Park is about 20 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. We meet you at arrivals, drive East Gate, and return you with a buffer before boarding. No prepayment.
| Park | Nairobi National Park, Kenya's first, gazetted 1946 |
|---|---|
| Size | 117 km2 of grassland, riverine forest, gorges, and dams |
| Altitude | About 1,500 to 1,800 metres. Cooler than lowland savannah |
| Distance | About 7 km south of the CBD. Langata Main Gate from most hotels. East Gate from JKIA |
| Hours | Gates 06:00-18:00. Last entry 17:15. Hippo Pools walkers out by 17:15 |
| Big Five | Lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino. No wild elephants in this park |
| Wildlife | 100-plus mammal species. 400-plus birds. Black rhino sanctuary |
| Known for | Skyline-and-giraffe photographs, Ivory Burning Site, Hippo Pools walk |
Send both flight numbers before you fly. We watch the inbound arrival. If immigration is slow, we cut Hippo Pools, not the airport return. If the connection is under 6 hours block-to-block, stay airside. We will say no rather than risk the outbound.
How a 6-hour layover actually runs
- Clear immigration and collect bags if you are changing terminals. Meet the guide at the arrivals door we confirm on WhatsApp. Name board on request.
- Drive to East Gate. Guest eCitizen tickets. Vehicle already has driver and car fees paid.
- Game drive: plains, dams, skyline. Ivory Burning Site if time. Hippo Pools only if the outbound still has 2 hours after we leave the gate.
- Back to JKIA with a minimum 90-minute buffer before scheduled departure for international connections. Earlier if you still need to check bags.
